Dear Friends and Members of the Washington Sängerbund,

In this second year of the pandemic, I sincerely hope that this letter finds you and your family strong and healthy.
This has been a crazy year. Covid-19! First the city opened and meetings and masks were optional, then things closed again. We attempted to hold a rehearsal — outside — successful but not äs a long-term solution. Next our conductor moved out of the area forcing us to search for a replacement. We quickly found an interim conductor. Nöw, we look forward to resuming rehearsals and a planned appearance at the Willard Hotel's Christmas in the Lobby. We have been hurt by cancelled Oktoberfests. The Sängerbund traditionally sold German-style food at those events making them a source of needed funds. With no activities for our membership, we dispensed with collecting dues. All of this leaves us depending solely on the generosity of our members and friends to keep us moving ahead. While our sources of income have diminished, some of our expenses have not. Careful monitoring of our expenses has allowed us to survive. We expect the District of Columbia to lift many of its covid restrictions äs Montgomery County has recently done. As we begin to resume activities, we will need your help to be in a position to do so.
We will continue to tightly monitor our expenses but they will increase. Firstly, we will again have a conductor to pay and an accompanist to hire. Secondly, there will again be rent to pay for our rehearsal facilities. As we can return to promoting German culture in the Washington, DC metropolitan area — our primary purpose, we face expenses not needed during the past year.
We need and are so grateful for your generosity, which touches — and changes — so many lives that are interested in the furtherance of German culture in music and song.
